  2. There are two levels of Bodhisattva-ship.

First, is the "Aspiring" Bodhisattva. That is just about all of us who have practiced and studied Buddhism for a number of years then taken the Bodhisattva Vow. We try, we do our best to help others, but fail constantly.

The second level is that of the "Entering" Bodhisattva. Here the training wheels have come off. These rare beings have managed to free themselves from the obsessive concerns of the Self - and have turned outward toward being of benefit to others. Often simply through their presence they can temper human suffering. One could point to people like the Dalai Lama, Mother Theresa, Dilgo Khyentse, and maybe even to someone like Abraham Lincoln - although, true entering Bodhisattvas may exist in anominity all over the globe.
